What is it ?

Greensense concrete is a highly efficient, energy saving and cost effective way of producing structurally sound reinforced concrete for a range of applications.
The difference compared to standard concrete is that this system massively reduces or completely removes the requirement for steel reinforcement within concrete. Instead a one of a kind, world patented system of synthetic reinforcement (Forta Ferro) fibres is used. This structural method has been in use for over 30 years all over the world for a number of high profile projects. In Indonesia it has been successfully used in a range of developments.
FORTA-FERRO® is an advanced fiber which replaces steel reinforcement. A unique blend of 2 fibers, FORTA-FERRO®:
Reduces and controls shrinkage and temperature cracking, and Reduces slab curling and increases post-crack performance FORTA-FERRO® fiber is typically used in long lengths (2-1/4”) and in high dosages (2 - 4kg per cubic meter) to affect a higher replacement level of reinforcing steel than standard synthetic fibers. FORTA-FERRO®, which means “Strong As Steel” is also extremely user-friendly, having gained a reputation as the best mixing and finishing fiber of its kind in the industry.

What are the advantages?

Whether architectural or environmental considerations, Green Sense Concrete outperforms all competitors.

In material alone, the cost savings can be up to 20% less as the Forta Ferro fibres are significantly cheaper than the price of steel per m2 of steel reinforced concrete.

The concrete comes with the fibres already mixed in during the pour. The benefits is reduced labour hours and placement time, providing significant job savings. Therefore months can be saved compared to the time it takes to prepare steel reinforcement especially on large projects.

Lower Carbon Footprint

Steel is one of the most energy consuming materials to produce and construct with. With the significant reduction of steel within a project, plus the reduction of cement, while still achieving the required MPA strength, this in turn contributes greatly to improving the sustainability of a project.

The synthetic Forta Ferro fibres do not corrode and will far outlast the life time of steel which is prone to rust, concrete cancer and degradation especially where good waterproofing additives are seldom used. It is also resistant to fatigue, a common problem when consistently heavy loads are involved.

Cracking Protection

The fibres infiltrate all parts of the concrete which bind the mass of the concrete together, creating quality concrete with reduced plastic shrinkage cracking

Reduces Bleed Protection

The combination of additives and fibres, when produced to the correct mix design, ensures that water is well distributed throughout and stored, thereby reducing bleed water and aggregate segregation.

Unlike conventional reinforcement which works in two dimensions, the fibres create three-dimensional reinforcement. Therefore its point load resistance, impact resistance and flexural strength is exceptionally high.

Self levelling and distribution

With the use of specific additives within the mix, the concrete seamlessly distributes throughout the formwork thereby greatly or completely reducing the need for vibration, effectively removing air bubbles and reducing honeycombing. On a floor, the concrete settles smoothly without lumps or ridging. When trowel finished, there is no need for extra toppings and if required the surface can be polished as per normal concrete.

and Proven

FORTA FERRO® has been tested worldwide for toughness, impact resistance, flexural strength, and residual strength. FORTA FERRO® has also been compared in residual strength (ASTM C-1399) to the major brands of steel fibres, resulting in an average replacement value of 1:10 (FORTA FERRO®: steel fibres). Floorslabs using this system have also been approved by the ACI (American Concrete Institute). It may be used to replace steel reinforcing mesh for slab on grade applications, precast tanks and products, etc and allows extended joint spacing (dependent on dosage, concrete strength, concrete thickness and end use).
